Dang it Kelly, you beat me to it
By the time that Scotty came in at 15-9 there was just him and one other guy competing. He was the only one left after that and then went 16'3 and then to 17'1. He attempted 17'3 after that, kinda close. His 17'1 jump was awesome (this seen from the perspective of catching his step and pole on the runway). The stadium got soooo loud after that and everyone was REALLY excited. I must say though, we have got to learn how to do "the clap" so that it doesn't screw people up when they're vaulting.

Meet of champions: Roth retakes national pole vault lead at 17-1
By Mark McDermott -- Bee Sports Staff
Published 2:15 am PDT Sunday, May 1, 2005
Scott Roth was feeling pretty good about his 16-foot, 9-inch pole vault when he arrived at Hughes Stadium on Saturday for the 25th Sacramento Meet of Champions.
Then the Granite Bay High School junior found out he no longer was the national leader.
"As soon as I got here, someone told me some guy in Arkansas went 17 feet," said Roth, the meet's defending champion. "It really caught me off guard."
The new national leader was Bryant High sophomore Spencer McCorkel of Norman, Ark., at 17 feet. Not for long.
In his usual businesslike manner, Roth backed up his 17-foot prediction from last week, clearing 17-1 to break his meet record. He also broke the 17-and-under national record.
"I really wanted this mark and to get back on top again," said Roth, who is looking ahead to the IAAF World Youth Championships, July 14-17 in Marrakech, Morocco. Only the country's best non-senior jump qualifies for the meet.
