Thought I might throw in a few tid-bits…you didn’t mention the reason bubka had to run from 16 steps was because of the short runway.. and because he had to adjust his run he had steve miller, who worked for nike at the time “catchâ€Â

Well the video evidence provided by the official IAAF film is that he did not touch the bar on that jump, although he got pretty close on the way down!
OOPS! Thanks for the correction, Alan. My recollection was that he hit the bar hard on that jump - but I should have checked the video. It must have been on an earlier clearance. Anyway - he almost didn't make it to the awards stand in 1988!

well this one time, standing next to Bubka in line at a meet, he told me that he jumped a 30 ft bungee, well he didnt say he 'cleard' it, but he said he just grazed it....
