nationals are still in cali. REGIONALS are at UT for your region

Yeah, I know it's Regionals, I read it correctly. Still, that's where NATIONALS SHOULD BE!

i second that!!!!!

hells no. texas is nice and all dont get me wrong, but i hate the crappy short pits. im very happpy that for my last year i will be back in cali..

wait, wait, wait.... crappy, short pits??? what does that even mean, we've got 4 of the best pits in the country and the winds are always great... i don't know if you were actually paying attention at last years NCAA's or the 2003 version, but the winds there are horrible... Sac. St. winds can't even compare to Sam Houston State winds... sorry, but it's science

i jsut wanted to add one more quite thing it looks cool

short pit refers to how far your front buns extend. most pits come out to around 8'6, yours barely make it to 7'6. its freakin annoying.. and im not the only one that feels that way. in fact.. of the big meets ive been too, the only ones that were smaller than yours were at tennessee.

what does that have to do with anything that affects jumping? an extra foot of padding?? the runways are fast, you'll have a tail wind, the fans are RIGHT there... it all adds up to high jumping to me... cross winds, or in my case full on head winds for the dec in '05(ncaa), '04(trials), & '03(ncaa), are more annoying than "small buns" if you ask me. am i alone on this? :dazed:

i can measure them today if you'd like, so we can have an accurate assessment of our "short bun" situation

I personally believe many young vaulters are unsafe because of having developed using "big" pits. Older guys can tell you that when you learn to jump on a "small" pit, where you land is a very important aspect of the whole process.

Seven words: Play with the hand you are dealt.

Smart adjustments make for consistent vaults. Bad weather, poles, grip, tired, sore, etc. shouldn't make things impossible. Jeff Hartwig told me a story about being at a meet in either a mall or a car dealership in Europe, I can't remember which he was at at the time. They had an elevated runway and a postage stamp sized pit. He got the job done. Play with the hand you are dealt.

Sometimes shorter front buns cause depth perception problems that lead to brain farts. But, if you land in the sweet spot everytime... size shouldn't matter. Unless you are as tall as VTechVaulter and can stretch all the way from front to back of the pit. LOL Just messing with you "B". Looking forward to seeing you this season.

yeah, i know, i learned to vault on a pit where the buns ended at the box, no kidding. and the sides of the pit didn't even go out to the edge of the standards... talk about small.

well anyone who has ever seen me jump can tell you i land dead center of the pit 99 percent of the time. my problem is the depth perception. my strength is my free take off, and on short pits now i always end up being under, its freakin aggrevating... should i be able to deal. yes. but what real meet happens on short bunned pits. the olympics and the olympic trials didn't, last years ncaa's didn't, even my conference meet didn't. i think this should be a new rule.. haha just kidding. i just haven't figured out how to trust my steps quite yet. so for now i PREFER (key word) jumping on larger front buns. but again, ill jump on just about anything

I've never been, but don't a lot of the smaller meets in Europe (especially street vaults and the like) have pits of various sizes?

I wish I could find a picture I used to have before my last PC crashed of Tarasov jumping 5.90 on the smallest pit i've ever seen. The front buns only came up 1/2 the length of the box and there was easily 1 foot between the inside rail of each standard and the side of the pit.
