the only reason ive ever heard to cut a pole is because the vaulter cant get over the sail piece and cutting it from the bottom will lower it but if your gonna cut from the top it wouldnt lower the sail piece just give you less grip and instead of cutting from the top the vaulter could just hold lower because they will want that extra length later

if you keep knocking off crossbars with your pole then maybe you should cut a little off the top, otherwise, a little off the bottom and the pole will bend nice and easy the only problem comes when you want a bigger pole you cant glue fiberglass back onto the bottom ;)

if you keep knocking the bar off with the pole, you should learn how to jump over your grip!

since poles are made differently would cutting 6 inches off a spirit make it more or less different than if i cut 6inches off a pacer? for example

cutting poles

Unread postby Vaultiletics » Wed Jan 11, 2006 7:38 pm

Whoa there! If you cut off the bottom maybe do it 1-2 inches at a time...
6 inches off the bottom and it wont even have the same feel as a pole should...

Again, you can't add it back later and you will find yourself out hundreds of dollars looking for a new pole...

Cutting off the top is just silly unless you are trying to stop a crack that may be creepng down a couple of inches...

Seriously. Cutting the top off the pole is the dumbest thing ever unless it is busted up or something. Any fiberglass above your grip will not affect anything below it.

6" off the bottom can make a decent sized difference.

A miter saw works very nicely also. Not ony that but you get a straight cut. Later...Mike
