Haha of course you would say that :P

I think Rick Baggett is one of the best coaches in the country. He doesn't always get as much attention but recently he coached Becky Holliday to 14-4 and Tommy Skipper to 17-7.5. And he is a really cool guy!

Hehe and he is a member of this board  Ha you can't say that about Earl Bell! (hehe at least not that I know of ;) )

High school coach, I would have to say is Jeff Guy, from corona del sol in arizona. Voted national highschool coach of the year at the pv summit in reno last year. Coaching Katie Morgan who ent 12'6 as a sophmore last year. Has coached at least a 15'6 vaulter every year for the past 7 years. And a 11'6 girl vaulter for the past 5 years. College wise its really hard to say, I guess that would have to do with which coach puts out the most consistent great vaulters! Theres alot of names out there. Each coach has his or her own style!
Just fly high, and KISS THE SKY!!!

Bryan Ferry of Kansas took a kid from 16'6" to 18' in 2 months and became an all american. Thats pretty good. he made me jump 5.35 this summer and i was hurt. I think he ranks higher then attig. In fact attig coach the 16'6" kid the before and didn't get him to do what Coach ferry did. He jumps on 5.20m 11.4 flex poles too.

I think the best coach is the one that works the best for you. That sounds cheesy, but it is true. I have worked with a LOT of different coaches over the past couple years. Things like good technical knowledge go a long way... but there are so many intangibles. Every coach explains things a little differently and each person's style just clicks better for some vaulters.

I had a 10' vaulter this summer and in about 3 weeks I had him clearing 11'6 over a bar from a 3 left run. Then he disappeared on me :( But I doubt I would be that successful coaching most other athletes.

My to picks are Earl Bell and Jan Johnson. Having a coach that was a instructor for Jan and working for Jan at some of the camps of course makes me favor him. I had a chance to work with Earl Bell a little for a couple days while our trak team was at a few meets in TN, and really enjoyed his style and coaching. Plus, he has been coaching some pretty incredible athletes as of late. So I would be pretty silly to not mention him.

I totally agree. I've been around some coaches that I had to dust off my physics book to try to understand them.

Bryan Ferry of Kansas

smokinvaulter1

Is that the same brian Ferry that vaulted at C.O.E., coached at the high school at stevens point, and coached at University of Wis Stevens Point for 2-3 years?

As far as WA goes I know Interlake always has good vaulters and UW has been putting out some huge vaulters lately, but I don't know who the coaches are or how long they have been there

For Interlake it is Charlie Shugart that Amy just referred to. I worked with him some this summer, and he is great. For UW it is Pat Licari, and he is also great :)
