It looks like on the video that you're run is real goofy, like you're almost "trotting" down the runway (could be the video). Or, it may be that every step you are taking you are adjusting to get to the pit. I would definitely get DJ's mid mark chart and start using it to get your steps down. Do Bubba's "face your demons" (www.bubbapv.com) game and start at 8 feet with the correct hand grip, mid mark (which will also be your start mark) and correct take off mark (according to the chart) . Believe me, everything that is showing up at the height you were jumping will also show up at 8'. But once you get it right at 8' then you can just shoot up the heights. In the video it doesn't look like you're running or planting tall which is leaving you short and not making it into the pit. Correct your run and plant. It's my opinion that it won't be to long that a landing out of the PLZ or coaches box is going to be scored as a miss. Keep in mind I said "in my opinion". Later....Mike

Just make sure that you have a good hospital plan and that your funeral arrangements have been made. If you keep on jumping like that you are likely to need both. Please try to find out about, and begin to develop, the most fundamental elements of this event - such as the run up, pole plant and take off. If you do not do that, I do not believe there is anyone on this forum who can really help you.
Its what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden

Alan just calls 'em like he sees 'em. Nicely put, our jumper hasn't got a working foundation for his jump. Picture how good a house would be if there was nothing (foundation, concrete blocks etc) under it. This is what's going on here. There's a ton of stuff out there to help the runup and plant. It's my hope our vaulter here will find it and learn it. Like I've said time and time again to Ming3, sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward. Our vaulter here is definitely a candidate for that. It's up to him to do it if he wants to continue jumping and not hurt himself. Later.....Mike
