FUNNY STORIES ABOUT POLE VAULTING

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Mon Mar 24, 2003 4:58 pm

Here is one:

I think it was famous 18+ vaulter once told me he was going up the escalator at the L.A. Airport with his poles in hand. The roof grabbed the top of the poles and the bottom of the escalator grabbed the bottom and the escalator just kept on going and the poles bend until they broke.

SO vaulters be careful when traveling with poles up an escalator

one of the coaches at the place where I practice was talking about a vaulter he was coaching, and the vaulter planted and got the pole into the full bend and then let go with his left hand and the pole shot streaght into his nuggets and busted one. So the vaulter was in the hospital I cant remember if it was seven days or seven weeks.

this isnt funny to me but the 50,000 people at Penn were laughing. It was wet there and i was goin up on my second attempt and as it ook off my hands slipped early for me to keep running into the pit. I hit the front of the pit behind the box and slid right off the pit onto the ground. I grabbed my pole and went home and cried. :crying:

PS cysts on the balls isnt good flyingkorean, u might wanna get that looked at SOON.

A guy at camp two years ago, planted, got full bend and was up at around 12' or so. Then he came back down towards the runway, AND REBENT! Next thing we noticed was that he shot up about 8 1/2 feet in the air, cleared the adjacent long jump runway, and crashed into a fence. Only a bloody nose and 3 broken fingers.

Anyone notice that it seems to be funny when people get hurt?

i got onto a bigger pole that i had never vaulted on before, and it was 7 inches longer too. i was pretty excited because i was trying for a new pr. well, i realized that i had totally overstrided my run and i would eat crap if i went up, so i didnt. well, the pole stayed on the cross bar, like a T, and i ran into my pole. i knocked out half of a tooth. . . we found it, i put it in my bag, and said lets do this. . i almost made my next attempt. . . lol
