16 footers

Unread postby fx » Thu Apr 20, 2006 9:09 pm

Hey I haven't really been paying much attention to how high high schoolers have been jumping for the past couple of years, but doesnt it seem like there are suddenly a huge number of high schoolers that have made it over 16'? I was under the impression that there were probably a few maybe like 6 or 7 16 footers a year in HS but judging by all the articles I guess not.

Jeremy Brading 16-6
Chris Thoman 16-3
Corey Shank 15-8 (Last Night- Plenty of height over it)

its amazing how many 16+ foot vaulters come from texas and cali each year. i think last year on this forum somewhere i read an article of three 16 footers in san diego alone! thats insane, the last we've had here in jersey was Adam Sarafian go like 17' 4 1/4'' (correct me if im wrong) and before that our state record was in the 80's.. 16'6 bill lange so im not sure if we've ever even had more than 2-5 vaulters see the 16' mark. i know last year Anthony Abitante (now at penn???) was like 15'6'' or around there and a kid from Ridgewood went 14'8''... so when you hit around 14+ around here, you'll be heard of...

So what you guys are saying is that this is just a normal year and that there have been about the same number of 16 footers each year?
