I can't bend the pole yet but there are two main reasons for that. First, I've only been vauklting for about 3-4 weeks. Second the pole I have to use is way too tall! However, my coach says I am making good progress on inversion. Obviously I'm not there yet, not even close. It seems like everyone here got their pole to bend before they could get inverted but my coach teaches inversion as the core of vaulting so I guess I will develop that before other parts of the technique come to me.

i dont think that there have been many peeps that can say they fully have every aspect of the vault down pat,...............but when you can do a flying squirrel, you are pretty close!!!
it took me about 4 years to perfect the move we call the flying squirrel
it is where you let go of the pole early like bubka, and as you go over the bar you reach back and grab both feet with your hands and hold it until right before you land...........(its a real crowd pleaser)

4 years and Im getting CLOSE to hitting the above the top of my pole point. For me thats the big barrier. Thats when you've gotten to bend... then gotten to the stage where your stuck as someone said in the 'chair' then there is the all famous.. totally vertical but your head is still looking upwards.. im still mostly stuck in that place but Im slowly getting more regular and closer to hitting 14' on a 13'6" pole. It does take a while just dont rush it. The most improtant part is a good coach if you want to learn quickly but thats not the case for a lot of vaulters so we do what we can and get beaten by those who do (college its different unless your in the tiny schools who dont pay for coaches!)
