her personal best of 483 was set in 2004! she was the 2005 usa outdoor champion! if you are going to talk shi* about great athletes, at least get your facts straight.

should all vaulters that in your opinion aren't capable of setting the world record simply give it up??? i guess most of us should have quit a long time ago.

hey , relax buddy! im not talking shi* on anyone. my point is that by 2008 i honestly dont think she will be a factor. is that a crime for me to say? ;)

yeah, i think starting threads saying vaulters are washed up is taking s***,

you werent just saying she wouldnt be a factor in '08, you were saying things there flat out not true as in she was great 5 years ago, so i point out that her PR was set as recently as 2 years ago. you have no point!

wrong. first of all i didnt start this thread. and she isnt at the top as she was 5 years ago. when she set her PR really dosent matter. honestly do you think in 2008 she'll be at 16'6" or whatever the top girls are at then? sorry , i dont. if she keeps going or not is HER choice. not mine , not yours, only hers. my OPINION (which you can disagree with) is that the usa would be better off if she were to take the up and commers and train/teach them. but whatever happens i support her (not that it matters one bit.)

i know, i was referring to the other thread you started about a couple of male vaulters.

and she isnt at the top as she was 5 years ago. when she set her PR really dosent matter.

doesnt matter, or you didnt know the facts? it is very relevant, it shows that she improved up to at least 2004 and that was more recent than 5 years ago, yes, others improved as well, but it seems that you are arguing that she should walk away from competing just because somebody took her world record.

will she jump 16-6 in '08? odds are against it to say the least, but seeing how she won the us title in '05, she could have a good shot to make the olympic team in '08 if she is healthy and still competing

if she keeps going or not is HER choice. not mine , not yours, only hers.

yes

you keep saying that she should be a coach. athletes don't automatically make good coaches(though stacy could probably be good at anything she tries)

ok, ill try again.

"it seems that you are arguing that she should walk away from competing just because somebody took her world record. "

no. but she isnt doing this JUST for fun. she has to eat, right?

"she could have a good shot to make the olympic team in '08 if she is healthy and still competing"

IF she is still healthy (to be elite). injuries in an older athletes dont heal fast.

"if she keeps going or not is HER choice. not mine , not yours, only hers."
YES, we agree!

so in the end it seem to ME that her time has passed. im sorry if that makes you mad , but facts are facts. 2 more years to go. will she get better? or just get left behind? not one of us knows. best of luck to her and all of us!

Pole Bender,
Why don't you tell us a little about yourself and your accomplishments as a vaulter/coach (you have nothing on your profile)?

Maybe that will give everyone a bit more insight about your expertise and add more credibility to your contraversial opinions.

ugh...Ok, pole bender it is true that no one has to listen to your opinions, but just know that you are going to get rather incensed responses when you post thoughts that are controversial, degrading to elite vaulters, or just don't make any practical sense.

You mentioned that we don't have to respond to them (and that doing so just prolongs their life in this forum), but, in a way, we do. I'm not saying that we are required to...but if someone says something that you do not agree with at all or beats on someone that you respect, it is kind of incumbent upon you to stand up for them.

Sarcasm or attempts to be witty will not ameliorate your standing in the minds of those who have read your previous posts...and ending a post saying that a vaulter should just hang it up because they won't be olympic-bound in 2008 with "but I wish them the best of luck" doesn't change what you said.

Everyone appreciates opinions that are based upon evidence and facts. Try it...and you'll get some respect.

And...when a reasonable point has been brought up (such as in the Tommy Skipper going pro or staying in school post), let's all just leave it at rest. ;)

*woohoo, now I'm a jerk...ah, but I needed to say it*

Let me play among the stars
