A big problem with this is that most news is so audio/visually centered. It would be hard to report a pole vault mile stone on the evening news when you cant give video of the jump.
I am not trying to make excuses, but the Grand Haven Beach Vault got coverage on ESPN SportsCenter when they sent them HD quality video!
