what to do ..

well i was wondering what kind of things i could do ..like drills..until the next pv season. the only thing is that i dont have a pole or anything ..so what can i do so i can keep in shape and the skills?

sprint work - summer meets - if you can not borrow a pole then Long Jump and sprint -even if you get your butt kicked it will help the vault - :yes:
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times

Put a bunch of weight on a sled, strap it you. and sprint up and down a football field all summer. and Vault if you have the opportunity.

i usually improve the most right after season is over and it really helps for next season if you can get your coach to practice in the summer and pre-season. see if your coach is willing to, or try to find a local club that practices in the summer. weight lifting is also good, sprinting, anything that pertains to the vault. ;) have fun!

The United States Olympic Training Center (USOTC) does not recommend specialized year-round training for sports or events. Advantage Athletics suggests core strength exercises and circuit training for your weightlifting for summer workouts that will help develop general physical fitness.

Pole vault specific strength and timing exercises are also good for the summer. I.e. swinging rings, gymnastics, horizontal bar, inverted rope climbing and rope vaulting...but not pole vaulting.

Stay away from pole vaulting and sprint training...Instead do "Active Rest". Active Rest is playing lots of quick agility games. I.e. basketball, racquetball, handball, soccer... Surfing and/or swimming is also a good sport because it develops the total body extension muscles, shoulder range of motion and shoulder strength.

Summer pole vault camps are good because its about the only time most pole vaulters get chance to train with World Class coaches and just hang out with and socialize with large numbers of pole vaulters from across the country.

We suggest these things because that's what we learned from attending USATF Coaches Certification Clinics, the USOTC, AAF Coaches Clinics, coaching at the NCAA level with National Championship Winning Head Coaches (i.e. Art Venegas and Bill Webb) and many other coaching clinics put on by World Class coaches.

oooooooooooopppppppppppppppsssssss. sorrry, i forget stuff b/c i love to practice a lot. i took a month and a half off at the end of summer, and for the first 2 months of the school year, i only worked on my stride, run, lots of bungee runs, pole runs and lifting weights and what not. then my coach only let me vault 2 or 3 times a week for several months, so i guess i dont vault year round and almost everyone would burn out if they did, me included. but the main thing is to have fun, just enjoy what you are doing. ;)
