jumpin in the summer

Unread postby vaultin chris » Tue Jun 24, 2003 10:25 pm

ok so i jumped once this summer and i jumped better heights on 14-14'6 poles than i was jumping when i was on 15-15'6 poles durin the season. Not to mention it was a Sunday night, and i came out expecting to only jump bars around 14 and 15 i finished out goin 16 on a 14'6 75 and 16'6 holding 7 inchesdown on a 16 70.

If this has happened to u let me know. if not i still wanna hear what everyone else has been doin for the last month.

my area sucks for vaulting. Me and my coach are the best vaulters in our area, and Nobody exept us is any good here so pretty much no schools have summer vaulting and the college that i usualy vault at wont let us vault there. we are supposed to go to mt sac a few times though and vault with Brian. Well not realy with him but he'll probably watch.

i have the same results as you. im jumping better now then i did during the season, but the thing is. i have been on like 15 70s and 74s comin on a 4 and 5 step jog and smokin 16 and gettin over 17 pretty decently, its freakin weird, i changed my hand grip to closer together , but i had one practice where i was comin in from 4 lefts, and i was smokin 16 and got over 17 like twice. but during the season i never cleared 16 once on a 16 foot pole, oh well , just makes me cant wait for next seasonso much more.

Sounds like you lowered your grip and became much more efficient! Learn from this! When you begin jumping next year, start where you are now, jump 16' gripping 14'6 and then just raise your grip an inch at a time until you can jump 16'6 gripping 14'9 - 17' gripping 15' - 17'6 gripping 15'3 - 18' gripping 15'6 ect. I have seen you jump. A 15'6 grip is easy for you, but in the past you have not been very efficient on your big poles.

A big grip is only as effective as the technique behind it.
