Rules - changes
Don't feel like the pole vault is the only event that the rules change - ask the weight throwers and hammer guys - narrow the sector, change the width of the handle, unless you follow or are in that group - you just may not be aware of them - changing false start rules! - I spend a good deal of time following the changes and how they impact us -

Here's my two cents........The reason all of these rules have been implemented is to make track more "TV friendly". While the false start rule kind of makes sense for the sprints, the peg and bar rule make no sense for the vault. The false start rule, however, only makes sense b/c there is so much TV time already devoted to a few races that take 10-20 seconds. False starts just increase the amount of time devoted to the race. However in the field events, all you ever see is 3 or 4 of the top jumps, all of which are shown in consecutive order so it only takes 30 seconds to report the ENTIRE 2 hour competition. The 10 second race gets 15 minutes of TV time! If all they are going to show is the winning jumps, then why do they need to make the competition go faster by shortening the pegs and messing with the cross bar so people go out faster??? IAAF is just like any other governing body of anything....its just one big stupid beaurocracy where everyone (including bubka) has thier thumb up the you know what. 98% of the members of the governing board haven't the slighest idea about the vault. Its sad to see that sports are so contolled by politics.
Thats my rant on this subject. I'll shut up now.

and here's my last thing. This is an article written by the stabhochsprung dude. I posted it a couple months ago but nobody seemed to care. I think it really goes well into analyzing the new rules and even if you don't agree with what he says, it helps you to form your own opinions. So if you actually care about the new rules read it and post feedback.

actually, i had seen it before you posted it, but ended up using it in my senior paper about pole vaulting rule changes....but yeah, so somebody cared, lol
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali
