If you're really serious about vaulting in college, I would recommend going somewhere in the Big 12 or Pac 10. The SEC has a couple of good schools for the vault (Florida and Tennesee for example) but that particular conference is not really known for pole vaulting all that much. Really, the entire east coast has been fairly weak in the vault over the last few years, ofcourse with the exception of a few select vaulters. In my opinion, the best coaching and the best vaulting conditions are in the Big 12 and west coast area.

The SEC is not the strongest vault conference, but it does have solid programs at almost every school. As does the Pac-10.

The original question is very vague and hard to answer.

If you're talking straight up performance of vaulters in a certain region/league then west and pac 10 are heads and shoulders above the rest. The Pac 10 has the highest qualifying mark of any league, 5 meters. Thats 4 inches higher than the NCAA Regional qualifying mark. Even with that mark usually 12-16 vaulters compete in the Pac 10 championships. As a region you can just look at the mark it took to go to NCAA's. Between the East, Mid East, and Mid West, the highest mark to qualify was 16'10".The other two were 16'7". The west took 17'4", and there was a jump off for fith place. That doesn't even include brad walker who was out with a broken hand from pac 10's the week earlier. And if you're looking on the girls side then i don't think anyone questions the pac 10/West region as being the premier spot.

However Big 10 also has a lot of good jumpers and good schools. You can never count out them texans.

with all of this in mind, i still feel like my choice to go to an SEC school over all other conferences was a good decision and the correct one for myself. its all about personality, and what conference has more personality than the SEC? hail to the clique...

good call rainbowlgirl...but dont even get me started on SEC football games. there is not a conference in the country that can hang with an SEC saturday. if you disagree-make a trip down. you can even stay at my place, but to let you know, there is no sleeping on an SEC game day.

The SEC is unbeatable on game day experience. The highlight of this is, of course, the Florida-Georgia game. It's so intense, they have to hold it at a neutral location

It is an event were you get the crap beat out of you and it takes half of indoor to recover - of course that could apply to the fans in the stands as well -

SEC is the way to go if you want to be apart of a successful program. Granted the schools in the west usually put out prtty good pole vaulters, look at the top 5 0r 6 teams at NCAA's for the past 5 years you will see the SEC is consistently 5 of the places. Being apart of a good program will make you better! I don't think anyone has asked the ultimate question though, How high do you jump? that is very important in determining where you will fit in.

Forgot to mention how badass football is down here too. Football games in all the other conferences are like high school football games here. no one can compare.
