and for anyone else who might run into this problem- to feel better after, o let's call it, prolonged socializing, it's been scientifically proven to help if you:
1. eat burnt toast- the carbon acts as a spongey filter and gets rid of any remaining toxins in your body.

2. eat eggs- they have cysteine which helps break up more toxins in your liver.

3. drink sports drinks- if you can't get one, water's fine, but these have electrolytes that were probably depleted since alcohol is a diuretic.

4. eat a banana and drink fruit juice- replace everything you washed out the night before, namely potassium and fructose.

i just took a test on the how your body uses ethanol, which is what makes us drunk... it takes 4 hours just for the ethanol in one beer to leave our body completely and it takes 9 hours for 3 beers... it goes on like that on a pretty accurate scale... there is nothing you can eat, drink, or do to increase the rate of reaction inside the cells of you body!!!!! the effects of alcohol may be gone, but the alcohol is still there... that's why the next day, you sweat and it smells like yeast.... because that's where ethanol comes from... the fructose in bananas and sports drinks cause a huge spike in blood sugar and may cause you to bonk towards the end of tough practice.

my advice is just to not eat, you'll probably puke it up anyways, or not do it, especially before you jump... i've done it before i've done speed endurance workouts and had the best pracitce times of the year, but i puked hard afterwards... i've never jumped the night after though, someday.....

yeah, if you've got to practice with a hangover, then i don't know what to say, except maybe i'm sorry, and that stinks a lot. at that point, just pray.

deca's absolutely right, doing that stuff won't speed up the reactions, but they will replace things you lost mainly from dehydration and somewhat from your liver trying to continually break down the alcohol you've been consuming.

one other thing to consider if drinking is the kind of alcohol you consume. the darker it is, the harder it will be on your body- so gin and vodka would be easier than bourbon and brandy. if you stick to one kind of drink it will make things easier on your body because your liver only has to deal with one mix of toxins instead of lots of different ones. also, carbonation will speed up the absorption of alcohol, so there's a fun fact.

eh, i don't know, just don't binge drink. perhaps that old mantra, "moderation is key," is appropriate...? ::sigh:: and again i shall return to nerdville :o lol

Just don't do anything dumb if you know you have practice the next day. Especially if it's vault practice. And ESPECIALLY if it a meet!

Part of taking your vaulting to the next level is getting your priorities in order. I am sure we can all think of a number of vaulters with the talent to do something, but who missed too many classes, went to too many parties, or hung out with too many women (or vice versa) to reach their potential as a vaulter.

Everybody makes mistakes from time to time, but there is a limit to how much you can get away with anything.

as long as you know what you are capable of and what not you should be fine, practice the morning after is only hard if you gotta hard workout, but if your vaulting and your in shape, you body should be able to handle it, i think anyways, i have been in that situation and i vault great cus im not thinking so much about what i need to do, im thinkin about just gettin down the runway as fast as i can or something like that that and nothing else, and i jump great.

Boy have I been there before...

My freshman year in college I had a meet on a Friday night, PR'ed by 9". The next week I woke up feeling sick, dehydrated, disoriented, the whole nine, then PR'ed again... I think there is a lot of truth to not feeling well equals relaxing and just getting the job done.

Friend of mine had an all nighter not the night before a meet, but the Thursday before (the meet was on Saturday). Went on to jump a lifetime PR, qualify for nationals, and do it all on a bum knee...

Scientific proof... we should be drunk all the time :P ...only kidding

i am of the opinion that everything should be enjoyed in moderation as well...including moderation.

so, yes, its ok to go overboard occasionally, just as long as you are safe.

some good advice though that my dad gave me once:

"You will never wake up the next day and wish you would have drank MORE beer the night before."

but yeah, i usually try to chug a bunch of water or gatorade before hitting the sack, but usually i only remember to do this if i dont really need to.
