both pole vaulting and hurdles require speed, athleticism, and coordination. there was a guy on my team last year who ran 14.8 in the 110h and jumped 14'7.

The best girl athlete I have coached went to State and was:
    1st 100m hurdles - 14.79
    1st Long Jump - 17' 10.25"
2nd PV (tied for 1st in height, but had 1 more miss) - 11' 9"
    3rd Triple Jump - 36' 7"
She was the only girl on the team to score points and her points earned our team 4th place.

I ran hurdles too, but never got much under 17. Never set the world on fire in the vault either. I can still 3-step 42" hurdles at age 48.

I think they are compimentary to one another. I think the actions of the takeoff can simulate one another and the attacking of each is beneficial to each.

I coached a few boys who did both. As the hurdle times went down the vault heights went up and vice a versa. Boys with not much natural talent, worked their tails off for 6 yrs and by the time they were Sr's they were 14 ft vaulters and pretty good hurdlers.
